Italy was the birthplace of the violin and the sonata. Trio Settecento celebrates these powerful musical innovations by featuring Italian violin sonatas of the 17th and 18th centuries in many of its performances and recordings. The members of Trio Settecento—Rachel Barton Pine (baroque violin), John Mark Rozendaal (viola da gamba), and David Schrader (keyboard)—each have illustrious individual careers and their ensemble has been delighting audiences since 1996.

In recent years, the trio has specialized in the sonatas of Arcangelo Corelli and Francesco Maria Veracini and in performance techniques of the era. They bring a remarkable sweetness of tone and nobility of gesture to the works of Corelli and dazzle the ears with the instrumental pyrotechnics and edgy compositional derring-do of Veracini’s homage to Corelli’s sonatas.

“The exhilarating bravura of her incisive articulation and sharply pointed rhythms is matched by Barton’s singing line in her poised and elegant lyrical movements. Superb continuo players David Schrader and John Mark Rozendaal contribute to the real sense of ensemble teamwork.” (Fanfare)
